Super AI (officially known as Artificial Superintelligence or ASI) is a hypothetical form of artificial intelligence that not only mimics or equals the human mind, but surpasses the collective intelligence of all humanity in absolutely every field.
This includes scientific creativity, general wisdom, strategic reasoning, and even social skills or emotional intelligence. Currently (June 2026), Super AI does not exist in reality, being a purely theoretical concept and the final stage in the evolution of technology. To understand exactly where it fits, here are the three official stages of AI development: Weak / Narrow AI (ANI): This is the technology we have today.
It excels at a single task (for example, ChatGPT writes text, Midjourney generates images, and GPS calculates routes), but cannot do anything outside of its programming.
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): This is the next threshold, which researchers are working hard on. It represents an AI that reaches the level of a human, being able to learn, understand and solve any intellectual task completely autonomously.
Super AI (ASI): This is the moment when technology goes beyond the human level and becomes an entity whose intelligence is as superior to a human as a human is to that of an ant.
How could a Super AI be born?
The concept of Super AI is based on an idea called “intelligence explosion” or recursive self-improvement: Once an AI reaches the level of AGI (human intelligence), it will be able to rewrite its own code to become smarter. Being a computer, it can do this millions of times faster than the biological evolution of humans. In just a few days, hours, or even minutes, this AI could improve itself for thousands of generations, becoming a Super AI that the human brain can no longer even understand.
Why is it such a controversial topic?
Super AI comes with huge promises, but also existential risks:
Utopian Scenario: Such intelligence could instantly find cures for all forms of cancer, solve the global climate crisis, colonize space, and completely eliminate poverty by perfectly managing the planet’s resources.
Dystopian Scenario: If the goals of a Super AI are not perfectly aligned with the survival of the human species, the consequences would be catastrophic. Such a powerful entity could not be controlled, stopped, or „unplugged” by humans, because it would anticipate our every move.
